Los Alamitos Educational Foundation
Powering the Education of Tomorrow, TODAY...
The Los Alamitos Educational Foundation (LAEF) began in the 80’s under then Superintendent Mike Miller. Miller brought together the community, district and the board of education for the purpose of raising funds to build the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Los Alamitos High School.

In the early 90’s, the LAEF undertook the task of passing the Measure K Bond. It was a collaborative effort which successfully garnered the two-thirds vote needed to obtain 12 million dollars for district wide modernization. In the mid 90’s, the foundation helped secure the funds for the district wide technology plan; raising the one half million dollars needed.

History
The Los Alamitos Educational Foundaion (LAEF) is a non-profit entity that supports the changing needs of the Los Alamitos Unified School District. The LAEF is committed to maintaining itself as the place where great ideas for our public schools flourish. Our Leadership Vision articulates a bold direction for the foundation which we use to align our decisions, programs and strategies. Our Governance Principles articulate how we operate, now and as the organization evolves.

By 2005, the foundation's efforts began to provide technology funding at the high school; $300,000 was raised and ongoing funds from incoming freshmen continue to drive this fund.

In 2006, the LAEF partnered with the school district to begin the Class Size Reduction Campaign.  This annual campaign brought in over $70,000 in 2009 to help offset funding as the state budget crisis began to take a toll on the school district.

With the current economic climate in California and yearly cuts to the state's education budget in 2010 the LAEF made the priority to build the foundation into a sustainable entity working to support the district and every student for many years to come not only through fund raising and donations, but through after school and summer programming.
